Milan Rakovac joins readers for a literary conversation at Rijeka City Library. His poetry, novels, essays, and travel writing form part of a body of work developed alongside a long career in journalism, editing, and translation.

About the author
- He was born on 12.12.1939. in the village of Rakovci near Poreč.
- He attended school in Pula and Zagreb and graduated from the Naval Academy in Divulje.
- After his military service, he held political positions in Pula, Rijeka, and Zagreb.
- From 1973 to 1975, he was editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Glas Istre.
- He spent most of his working life at Television Zagreb, later Croatian Television, editing and producing documentaries, feature reports, and interviews.
- His initiative led to the founding of the Forum Tomizza international cross-border meetings in 2000. Held in Umag, Koper, and Trieste, they encourage social and cultural dialogue.
- He translated works by Fulvio Tomizza, Paolo Parovel, and Angelo Vivante from Italian.
- He also wrote monographs, popular song lyrics, and screenplays, and some of his writing has been adapted for the stage.
Books and awards
- In 2015, V.B.Z. published his Izabrana djela, a four-volume selection spanning fifty years of writing.
- His earlier books include Priko Učke and Sik, both published in 1980, and the 1983 novel ‘Riva i druž̌i ili, caco su nassa dizza.
- The novels Haluj ili Sunce je diteisno zlatno and Sliparija were published in 1986, followed by Snovid in 1987.
- Later titles include Istragram: štorije i uganke from 2000, Cha for kids from 2004, and La Triestina and Kvarnerski otočni lucidar from 2006.
- Besida priletuća and Sinovi Istre were published in 2009.
- More recent books include Adrianske kartoline with Jovan Nikolaidis from 2021, Slovo Bosni from 2022, and Kužina prvanja from 2024.
- Agrameraj is in preparation for 2026 with Opatija publisher ShuraPublikacije.
- He received an award from the City of Pula in 2009 and the Forum Tomizza award from the Trieste Lions Club in 2020.
- In 2025, Istria County presented him with its Krasna zemljo – Meraviglioso paese lifetime achievement award.
