About the event

Kortil Gallery opens its fall season with the work of Milica Živković, an artist who uses painting, objects and light to think through what it means to grow up in the postwar Balkans. She turns motifs from personal and shared memory into reflective surfaces where tenderness and resistance hold together, and arranges the space so that it shifts with the visitor's steps. The exhibition comes to Rijeka from Vienna's MuseumsQuartier, where it was first shown.

How the exhibition came about

  • The exhibition was developed during a residency in Vienna, as part of the UNIQA SEE FUTURE Foundation program
  • The artist was mentored by artist Šejla Kamerić
  • The program is organized by the Croatian Office for Contemporary Art NOMAD to support and promote young women visual artists from Southeast Europe

About the artist

  • Born in Belgrade in 1993
  • Studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje
  • Graduated in 2020 from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague
  • Her work deals with life in the post-socialist region, family migration, the politics of memory and the female perspective
  • Solo exhibitions in Prague, Belgrade, Budapest, Bratislava and Ljubljana
  • Has taken part in numerous group exhibitions across Europe and in the US
  • Her work has been featured in Artribune, KubaParis, Easttopics, Nonfiction and AQNB
  • Received the Milčik Award for young artists in 2023
