About the event

What did the ships connecting Adriatic and Ionian ports look like between the mid-17th and mid-19th centuries? This exhibition at Decumanus Gallery brings maritime archival research together with painted reconstructions, exploring the variety of vessels that sailed these waters.

Exhibition and opening

  • The exhibition runs from October 2 through October 22, 2026.
  • The opening takes place on October 2 at 18:00.
  • Venue: Decumanus Gallery, Josipa J. Strossmayera 2, Krk.
  • Gallery hours: Monday through Friday, 10:00–12:00 and 18:00–20:00.
  • Admission is free.
  • The exhibition is part of the commemoration of the 455th anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto.

Creators and source material

  • The exhibition was created by Zrinka Podhraški Čizmek, PhD.
  • Its research draws on approximately 20,000 18th-century documents collected and published by Nikola Čolak.
  • The exhibition’s creator examined more than 25,000 references to ships in port records, registers, consular correspondence, and maritime casualty reports.
  • Luigi Divari produced painted reconstructions of 62 vessels.

Traveling exhibition

  • The exhibition was first presented in 2024 at the Washington Patrignani Maritime Museum in Pesaro, followed by Cupra Marittima.
  • In 2025, the Croatian History Museum prepared a complete version in four languages for subsequent touring.
